...and that day would be today. We have yet again come to a close on another class here in Orvieto. Today marks our halfway point: 2 finished, 2 still to come. To celebrate all the work we put into this class, we are having a poetry reading this afternoon for our whole group. After our reading, we'll all go downstairs and see the art class's final drawings in a gallery opening. Then, at 6, some of our Italian friends have been invited to come see the art work and here us read our poems that we wrote about their drawings. Here is mine:
Drawing by Katy
Feathers
Danielle Willard
Stark white of silence
undone
as shadows of thoughts
circle in my mind
floating
to stir senses and drift
into words. Feathers
dance lightly through
the air,
swirling
hopes yet unspoken
in my mouth
until
as voice emerges
they settle
on the ground.
I'm in the process of translating it, so this is what it looks like so far:
Le Piume
Il silenzio bianco e severo
è rotto
mentre le ombre dei pensieri
cerchiano del mio mente
galleggiante
a svegliare i sensi e creare
le parole. Le piume
danzano alla leggera attraverso a
l'aria; le speranze
vorticose
sinora indicibile
in la mia bocca
fino a
quando la voce emerge
toccano
al suolo.
